LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Water emergencies is what a new Little Rock Fire Department rescue boat will now respond to. This is the first weekend the agency put the vessel on water.

"It's got a 500 gallon per minute pump. So we have firefighting capabilities on the boat," said Assistant Fire Chief Douglas Coney.

Firefighters say the boat will be available to other agencies to use as well and it has the latest software in emergency response.

“This boat is actually a landing craft. So you can actually lower the front of it down,” said Coney.

Riverfest will be the first major event the boat will be used by crews.

"They are going to be out on the boat assisting boaters just in case something happens," said Coney.
