This is the way classes are taught in schools in other states and it works out very well. Give it a chance! The only plus to those 90 minute classes is that usually there was no home work because the last half hour was usually devoted to doing it in class. That is the only plus I can think of having such long classes, especially for MS students!

@tonibarb I agree 100% the 124 teachers that voted for this change are probably the ones that are not teaching the kids anything anyway. So less is best, by the time the kids get to class and start the lesson class will be over. There is nothing wrong with adding more electives choices, but to take away from the main course just to attract more students to the district is stupid. What do it matter if they can paint, play an instrument, or act out a scene if they can't READ.... How about more teacher dedication and compassion!! If you get the students motivated in coming to school they will be motivated to learn..

Until these pitiful teachers start actually teaching like they are suppose to and quit looking for bonuses all the time, I don't care if these students go to school 7 days a week and 24 hours a day, it won't make scores better. Get rid of the edline and start immediately, calling parents to let them know what's going on with their children, when something happens. Start showing up at these kids homes and talk to these parents face to face, then when the child walks in from school the parents and teacher is sitting waiting on them. Teachers have to put forth the effort like they use to do years ago. Not all parents are going to "go off" on the teachers. Teachers won't have to do this for all students. Teachers, get control of your classrooms, get some backbone. You shouldn't be saying, allday, sit down, be quiet, stop, pay attention, listen... Call these parents Parents are not at school and they won't know what's going on unless you open your mouth.
