LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Little Rock School District and its employee union will resume talks on raises Wednesday.

The two groups met with mediators Friday for nearly eight hours, but didn't come to an agreement. Representatives from either side would not say how close they are to striking a deal.

On April 26, teachers and support staff employees picketed outside of district headquarters to preview the negotiations.

The raises in question are for the current school year. The district currently employs 3,800 people.

Bigbaddaddy12, that sounds like a great idea. Bid goes to the lowest bidder and often quality too. You get what you payfor... The military cut personnel and contracted many of the simple jobs too, now the tax payer pays a person $150k + per person just to have them do some of them simple jobs a job overseas and about $40k annual salary stateside.

support personal, like security and janitorial services need to be contracted out. this will save the district on salaries, insurance, payroll taxes, o/t, etc. and help keep quality/qualified teachers. Also, reduce administration overhead personnel--keep the focus on the teachers and the students!
