LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Labor groups are rallying at the state capitol against the so-called "sequester," the automatic cuts in federal spending that are set to take effect Friday night because the President and Congress have been unable to reach a deal on a long-term budget.

The sequester could indiscriminately carve $85 billion from the federal budget, affecting everything from air-traffic controllers to head-start programs for preschoolers.

"It's going to be massive cuts, huge cuts, and a lot of people are saying, 'Well that may not affect me,' but make no mistake: it's going to effect us all," says Candice Collins with Americans for Tax Fairness.

Experts say this is different from the so-called "fiscal cliff" we dealt with around the New Year because these cuts are expected to be gradual over time.

I don't know who this idiot is that the state run media interviewed, but here is the truth. The sequester is only a REDUCTION IN THE AMOUNT THAT THE GOVT. WAS GOING TO INCREASE SPENDING. For those of you who don't understand, we will still spend more money than we did last year and the deficit will rise above 16.6 trillion dollars even with the so called cuts. These democrats will stop at nothing. I am tired of obama and his ilk crying wolf every time they manufacture a crisis situation for their followers. Cutting 84 billion dollars out of 3.8 trillion is like you and I not buying a piece of chewing gum out of our monthly budget.

The 'cuts' are actually cuts in the increases. the budget (which this administration has not yet passed in 5 years) isn't shrinking; it's like telling you 'you are getting a 2% raise - no - wait - it's only a .5% raise.' there is no cut - just less of a raise. (the raise part comes from the tax increase to the 'rich' imposed in January)

Well, not hurting me so far but I don't get the free stuff. My kids weren't allowed to attend Head Start, weren't allowed to attend the gradeschool just blocks from our house because they weren't bused in from the city, never received free lunches - because I worked too much, I guess.
