LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A grand jury has handed up a 12-count federal indictment against a former director and treasurer of the Little Rock Civitan Club.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday that 66-year-old Jeanne Hanson of Little Rock is charged with a dozen mail fraud counts for allegedly stealing more than $49,000 from the organization's coffers.

Prosecutors accuse Hanson of bilking civic organization from October 2007 to November 2011. The indictment alleges that Hanson had the group's bank statements sent to her home and altered the statements to reflect a higher bank balance.

Online court records don't indicate whether Hanson has an attorney, though she made an initial court appearance Tuesday.

The Civitan Club didn't immediately return an after-hours message.

The club sponsors activities for disadvantaged youth and engages in charitable giving.
