The Little Rock School Board met for a special meeting Thursday night to discuss charter schools.

After several hours of discussion, the board voted to appeal a court decision regarding charter schools.

Little Rock School District board members listened to their legal counsel and decided to appeal the court's decision regarding charter schools.

Legal counsel says the impact of charter schools is detrimental to LRSD and violates an agreement with the state regarding desegregation.

The board says after listening to their legal counsel they feel confident they have a good chance at an appeal, but after the vote, will go back to focusing on the most important issue: educating the students.

"I don't think it's going to distract us from the priorities that we need to take care of as a district and as a board," LRSD board member Greg Adams said.

The district lawyer must file the appeal by Monday, then all that's left to do is wait for a court date.

protector20...I agree with you once again. IF the board were interested in high performance they would make it their business to have ALL students on the same PAGE by 2nd grade so they wouldn't be clueless as to what is going on in third grade. WHATEVER IT TAKES....ONE ON ONE OR OTHERWISE....I AM SURE THERE AREN'T THAT MANY WHO NEED A LITTLE EXTRA FACE TIME.

LRSD will never be an exceptional district because they are more interested in staying in court than educating the students. If Mr. Heller, John Walker and the LRSD board were half as interested in the students' well-being as they were the well-being of the LR Classroom Teachers Association and bilking the state for as much deseg money as possible, it might be a decent place to send kids to school.
