This weekend, models from across the state strutted their stuff on a runway in the middle of Pavilion in the Park. They're trying to grab a spot in
Little Rock Fashion Week this July. And, with America's Next Top model from Pine Bluff, they're also helping to put Arkansas on the map when it comes to modeling.
"I just really want to be a model. It would be really cool to be 2010 Fashion Week Model of the Year," says Kat Louks.
"I just want to come out for experience and maybe a little thrill," says Randy Dye.
"I don't think I have any competition here, but I hope for the best for everybody," says Markeeta Bunton.
Three models. One goal. But, do they have what it takes to make it to Little Rock Fashion Week?
"I believe that Arkansas has the best group of models in the entire country," says Brandon Campbell, who started Fashion Week last year. "We want to make sure that they can start here, but also finish on a whole higher level. That's what Little Rock fashion week is all about. Shining light on the models."
He's working with Excel Models and Talent to find Little Rock's top models.
"Lots of very confident young people, and we get a kick about giving them the opportunity to audition to build that confidence," says Melissa Moody.
Dye already takes classed at Excel.
"A lot of them really don't know. It's just kind of been my side project, been something I've been working on, and I really haven't been telling a whole lot of people, but most of my real good friends know, and they support me," says Dye.
"I think Little Rock, the fashion has grown so much, you know, and it's changing people in many ways, and a lot of people are wanting to model and a lot of the people here look like models," says Bunton.
That's why Kat was there Sunday. Her mom wanted her to audition.
"Everyone always says since I'm tall and blonde, I should be a model, so I just took their word on it," she says.
Kat and the rest of the fashion week model hopefuls find out if they make the cut May 18th at midnight. The results will be posted on the
Little Rock Fashion Week website.
