LONOKE, AR – A man found what officials from the Lonoke County Sherriff’s Office believe to be an explosive Monday morning, according to a release.

Police responded to a report about a suspicious item found in a vehicle on March 5th, around 9:30 am. According to reports, a Lonoke man purchased the vehicle from a scrap yard and while cleaning out the vehicle, found what appeared to be a grenade in a plastic cup inside of the trunk wheel well.

The man told police he covered the item with a trash can in his yard. The Arkansas State Police Bomb Squad inspected the item, which does appears to be a live grenade.

The investigation is ongoing.

A follow may be in order. The grenade pictured appears to be a M-18 smoke grenade. Other than causing burns if mishandled these are relatively harmless.
