PINE BLUFF, AR - Hundreds of employees at the Pine Bluff Arsenal are preparing to face furloughs thanks to the sequester. Many in Jefferson County have been through closings and layoffs before and say they know exactly what to expect as the furloughs kick in--more economic decline.

In typical Friday fashion Gary Raney's regulars are hitting the door of his liquor store after work, grabbing a couple of beers to unwind and sharing what's on their minds.

"Most of the people are just angry, they've been told they will lose one day a week from work and they're struggling as it is cause of gas prices," says Raney.

Raney opened his liquor store close to the Pine Bluff Arsenal. There, employees just received notice they'll be furloughed to making up for budget cuts in Washington. It's the latest in a string of setbacks in an area plagued with job and population loss for decades.

"I see a lot of people lose their jobs, it's tough," customer Daniel Connor says.

Connor has lived here for nearly 40 years.

"I got laid off a week before Christmas and I was wondering what I was going to do," he says, explaining his own bout with job loss a few years back.

Connor found work in Little Rock but still spends part of his paycheck near home, a much needed boost for Raney. He knows when his customers start suffering, he's not far behind.

"They will cut wine. If they're a whiskey drinker they may buy a smaller bottle," Raney says.

For now, he's preparing for the worst.

"It's a struggle to stay in business," says Raney.

And like many is this community he says he and Connor are still hoping for the best.

"I would like to see more jobs and more money," says Connor.

The store owner there says he expects some growth in the area near the Arsenal. He's been told a new Dollar General is on the way.

I really have nothing to add because you all said it!!!!! To think, we're just starting this second term. God help us in the 4 yrs to come. I'd love to say what I want done with Obama but I know my comment would be removed or hell Fox 16 will report and I'd have charges brought against me. Shame to those who voted this coward into office.

Liquor Store. A gathering place of people from all the ranges of humanity. Like in the old days a saloon was the place to get your news. Legal dope brings in a wide variety of people. Poor to rich. Educated to ignorant. All races from all walks of life. What better place to see the effects of the economy on all levels the public.

The voters wanted Obama as President for a second term, so now they are going to start suffering from the bad consequences of their love for him. They fell for his lies and dishonesty first term.....didn't learn nothing from it, and sent him in office for a second term. Now, suffer, you dumb A$$'s and wallow in your financial sorrow and despair. You think this current situation is bad; just wait until Obamacare comes into full effect.....you'll really be up $..t creek, in a boat, without a paddle.

I'm glad to see most of these comments are from people who know what they're talking about and know what's going on. I knew the first socialist muslim president was gonna be trouble as soon as he said he wanted to live in the White House.

Buster, no true Muslim Brother would dare cut financial aid to help his fellow Brothers in Crime! He has to fulfill his promises to them.

Buster11, your spot on in telling the truth as to what is going on. Even the reporter of this story said "thanks to the sequester". She could have reported that if the Federal Government would take out the $200 Billion in waste from just one agency from last year, this could have been avoided. Most people are just uninformed or don't want to take the time to research what's going on with their taxes.
