SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — A White County Circuit Court judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a man charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 3-month-old son.
The Searcy Daily Citizen reported Tuesday that Billy Goff pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect during a court proceeding. Goff remains in the White County jail on a $75,000 bond.
Records show Goff called 911 Jan. 1 to tell authorities that Joshua Goff had stopped breathing. The child eventually was flown by medical helicopter to a Little Rock hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The baby's grandmother, Christine French, says Goff was watching Joshua while she and the baby's mother, Heather, were out.
Billy Goff's attorneys, Amy Kell and Chris Nebbens, didn't immediately return a call after hours seeking comment.
