LITTLE ROCK, AR – Police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting an underage student at Philander Smith College, according to reports.

Police say that on December 8, 2010, detectives interviewed a sixteen-year-old female student at Philander Smith College, who said that the college Director of Recruiting, 43-year-old George Gray, asked her to dance or strip at a party for his fraternity, and when she refused, he sexually assaulted her in the office.

According to reports, Gray was arrested on October 5 and charged with second degree sexual assault and producing, directing and promoting a sexual performance by a child. Gray posted $20,000 bail on October 6 and is due back in court on October 20.

Statement from Philander Smith College

"Philander Smith College addressed the claims of a student who accused a staff member of unprofessional behavior. We took the complaint seriously and our administrative team immediately conducted an internal investigation, which resulted in the staff member tendering a resignation. The incident was reported to the Little Rock Police Department, resulting in the former staff member’s arrest yesterday.

“The safety and security of our students is a high priority at Philander Smith College. We will always consider any claim of sexual misconduct by any person on our campus as a very serious matter,” said Chief Jack Matlock, chief of security at the campus.

In order to comply with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, Philander Smith College can reveal no further details concerning this matter."

innocent until proven guilty! I love Mr. Gray, he's a damn good person.. he helped me a lot while I was at PSC, and he had my best interest at heart. I believe this was blown out of proportion. Little Rock took action too slow. Justice for Mr. Gray!! The best recruiter PSC had!

@PSCSTUDENT and PSCreptar, I agree with veryredneck (although I am African American) you do have a lot to learn. It does not matter how someone dresses or acts. Stipper or not, NO ONE DESERVES TO BE VIOLATED! Stop placing the blame on victims and hold offenders accountable.

Regardless of what a female wears, she should not have been treated this way. What happened to treat others how you want to be treated? Seriously people let's make some sense of this!!

It doesn't matter how "provocatice" the child. A 43 yr old married male with chidren of his own should know better. If true, how about exercising a little restraint. Female students at Philander are beautiful, so what. HANDS OFF!!!!

My question is why did it take almost a year to decide to do something to this guy? 10 months time how many others has he assalted? If this is true about this guy.... He's no better than all the other sex affenders out there. If convicted they need to go ahead and put his tail out of our mizzery too.

I will pray for Philander Smith College, it is a shame that it took LRPD almost a year to charge this person for the assault of a 16 year old child, and then only a 20,000 bond! Philander Smith College, you have been short changed!
