In the story it pointed out the subject didn't give the name of the school. They then went to the prefix which is for a specific area. Which would be your second best hint of the location. The first being the subject telling them where. Leave the investigating to the police.

What does the prefix of the phone number have to do with anything? If someone calls in a bomb threat to a school, you evacuate it regardless of where the call was made from.
