SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — White County prosecutors have charged a man with second-degree murder in the death of his 3-month-old son on New Year's Day.
Investigators say Billy Joe Goff called 911 that day and said Joshua Goff had stopped breathing. Joshua was transported to a hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead. Deputies were called after it was determined that Joshua had a crack in his skull.
Billy Goff had been watching Joshua while the baby's mother and grandmother ran errands.
The grandmother, Christine French, told the Searcy Daily Citizen that Billy Goff initially called and said everything was fine but contacted her an hour later and said Joshua wasn't breathing.
Goff's court-appointed attorney, Ellen Reif, declined to comment on Tuesday.
