DE QUEEN, Ark. (AP) — Sevier County prosecutors have filed a capital murder charge against the man suspected of kidnapping and killing a store clerk in Horatio.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that 25-year Cody Shane Griffin is charged in the Sept. 15 death of 19-year-old Wendy Zapata Hernandez. Prosecutors say Griffin abducted Hernandez at knifepoint and later cut her throat and left her body in the trunk of her car.
Griffin was arrested later that day while walking along a county road wearing only boxer shorts. Police say Griffin told officers where to find Hernandez's car and that her body was in the trunk.
An autopsy determined the woman bled to death.
Griffin is in the county jail on $1 million bond. His court appointed attorney has declined comment.
