Man crashes into police car, charged with DWI

One man has been charged with a DWI after colliding with a police car Wednesday afternoon.
BENTON, AR – One man has been charged with a DWI after colliding with a police car Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, the accident took place around 6:43 pm at the intersection of North and East Street on April 25. Benton Police Officer Johnathan Gray was driving northbound on East Street when he was struck by 42-year-old Jose Vega, who failed to yeild a stop sign at the intersection of North and East Street.

Police say Vega’s vehicle struck the police car on the passenger side. Both vehicles sustained major damage and could not be driven from the scene. Officer Gray was taken to the Saline Memorial Hospital for injuries where he was treated and released.

Vega, who had a 9-year-old passenger in his vehcile at the time, was charged with DWI, Careless or Prohibited Driving and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The investigation is ongoing.
