GAMALIEL, Ark. (AP) — Baxter County authorities say a deputy conducting a welfare check found the body of a man in the back yard of a home in Gamaliel.

Sheriff John Montgomery said in a news release that a deputy checking on the welfare of a man who had not been seen recently found the body Monday. Montgomery said the man had been dead for some time and it was not immediately known if the body is that of the man who lived at the home.

The sheriff said the body is being sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Little Rock for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
