SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say a 74-year-old man was struck and killed by a car as he tried to walk across U.S. 71 in northwest Arkansas on Thanksgiving.

Arkansas State Police say the fatal collision happened Thursday night near Springdale. According to a preliminary report, Truman Patterson of Seligman, Mo., was walking across the highway near a fast food restaurant when he was struck by a Ford Explorer.

Authorities say a light rain was falling at the time and the driver did not see Patterson before it was too late.
