FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A man charged with killing another man by running over him with a semi in the parking lot of a Fort Smith bar has been given a 10-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Michael Anthony Scarlett was charged in the April death of Jeremy Scott Enoch. Witnesses said Enoch was attempting to disconnect the air lines to the semi when he fell and was run over as Scarlett drove the rig out of the parking lot.
Prosecuting Attorney Dan Shue told the Southwest Times Record that he agreed to the plea deal because it isn't known if Scarlett was aware that Enoch was behind the semi and that both were legally intoxicated at the time.
Scarlett has told police he doesn't remember driving the semi.
