RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the death of a 4-month-old infant he was babysitting.
The Russellville Courier reports a Pope County Circuit Court judge also assessed $1,000 in fines against Jonathan Williams, who entered the plea Friday.
According to court documents, Williams called 911 on July 25, 2010, to report that Carter Shaw wasn't moving. The child was taken to a local hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to Arkansas Children's Hospital, where he died Aug. 4, 2010.
The documents state Williams told police he picked up Carter after noticing he was having trouble breathing. He said he shook Carter and then administered CPR.
A call to the public defender's office rang unanswered Saturday.
