RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the death of a 4-month-old infant he was babysitting.

The Russellville Courier reports a Pope County Circuit Court judge also assessed $1,000 in fines against Jonathan Williams, who entered the plea Friday.

According to court documents, Williams called 911 on July 25, 2010, to report that Carter Shaw wasn't moving. The child was taken to a local hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to Arkansas Children's Hospital, where he died Aug. 4, 2010.

The documents state Williams told police he picked up Carter after noticing he was having trouble breathing. He said he shook Carter and then administered CPR.

A call to the public defender's office rang unanswered Saturday.

I'm curious as to one thing. What was the cause of death? But like ladyofthehill said. Why would an innocent man plead guilty? Something doesnt add up.

Just for your information this man is innocent every bit of evidence showed it and this guy stepped in and was being a father to this child while the petty mother went and got messed up all the time I personally know his man and hes would never hurt a fly and the things he did for this child which was be a father. If you knew the facts you would also know that even her friends and the baby biological father know the truth and so do we.. The real one that should have been convicted is free and it wont be long till something else occurs and she will get the conviction she deserves.

Welcome to Pope County anything goes it seems like anyway this is beyond my mental capacity to be able to understand this sentence he was given. I live in Pope Co. and was wondering who came up with this sentence. You would get more time for petty shoplifting.

I personally know this family and they are in my thoughts and prayers everday! Nobody deserves to loose a child, especially in the hands of another person. In my eyes this 1 year sentence and $1000 fine is bogus! That is a rediculously small price to pay for taking an infants life! If you guys are reaing this, I'm sending lots of love and prayers your way! ~Renee J.
