EL DORADO, Ark. (AP) — A Russellville man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of an El Dorado woman.

Jeremy Wade Perdue was sentenced to 40 years in prison after entering the plea Monday in Union County Circuit Court.

Perdue was initially charged with capital murder in the August 2010 shooting death of 62-year-old Fran Farley in Farley's home and prosecutors had said they would seek the death penalty.

Prosecuting Attorney Robin Carroll told the El Dorado News-Times that Farley's family agreed to the plea deal because it closes the case and there will be no appeal.

Defense attorney Katherine Streett declined comment.
