LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Garland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who witnesses say was trying to break-up a fight and was run over by a car.
The incident happened Sunday morning at Smyly’s Crab Shack on Central Avenue. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a witness says that 49-year-old Ray Dautartas was crushed to death by a car in the parking lot.
The witness told deputies that 28-year-old Chase McGowen backed up in his car with the door open. The open door hit Dautartas, knocking him out. That’s when, according to witnesses, McGowen sped forward and ran over Dautartas.
McGowen, and other witnesses to the death, are being interviewed by authorities at this time.
