SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — A White County man has been given a 20-year prison term for the death of his 3-month-old son.
Billy Joe Goff pleaded guilty in October to second-degree murder in connection with Jan. 1 death of Joshua Goff. He was formally sentenced on Tuesday.
Authorities say Billy Goff called 911 and said his son had stopped breathing. Joshua was pronounced dead at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
Deputies were called after it was determined that the child had a crack in his skull.
Investigators say Billy Goff had been watching Joshua while the baby's mother and grandmother ran errands.
The child's great-grandfather, Ray Pruitt, told the Daily Citizen the family is pleased with the sentence.
Goff's lead attorney, Pat Aydelott, didn't immediately return a call Wednesday seeking comment.
