PRAIRIE VIEW, Ark. (AP) — A man in Logan County was left in critical condition after he was struck by a gunshot fired by a neighbor who was trying to shoot a stray cat.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office says 29-year-old Terry Osburn was sitting on his porch in the Prairie View community on Tuesday when the gunshot struck him in the face.

The Southwest Times Record reports that a 58-year-old neighbor was several hundred feet away and took aim at a stray cat with a .38-caliber handgun.

The neighbor's name wasn't released but deputies say he was arrested for suspicion of second-degree battery.

The sheriff's department says the men hadn't been arguing and that the shooting appears to have been accidental.

I own guns and have been trained to use them. Anyone who has training knows that you do not fire them in a residential area. Also if you don't like an animal in your neighborhood call animal control. The owner is guilty on both counts.

IDIOT, "neighbor was several hundred feet away". If the neighbor was several hundred feet away. The moron with the gun was aiming fairly high. A .38 cal. will drop several inches in that distance, so was he aiming at the cat or his neighbor?

yeah too bad he missed the cat. I'm wondering why they are charging him with assault if the shooting was accidental.

Some of you are so cold hearted and cruel minded. Maybe god should have put you on earth as a stray animal. I guess it is the poor little cats fault this so called intelligent human likes to play with guns. I would bet money the cat wasn't bothering him, it just gave him an excuse to shoot his big ole gun. It sounds like he needs the practice but they do make targets if you have the need to play with your toy. I do think the gun is like a toy for this man. And he needs to learn when to use it ,why to use, and how to use it.
