Man shot in the legs during robbery attempt

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A Little Rock man was shot in the legs Saturday morning when two young men tried to rob him and his ex-girlfriend.

Sandra Peer tells police she met with Derrick Smith at 5517 W. 51st Street to visit. While they were in Peer’s call, two men in their early 20’s approached the driver side and passenger side doors. The men opened the car doors, pulled out handguns, and demanded money.

When Smith and Peers said they did not have any, one of the suspects shot Smith several times in both legs, according to the police report.

Peers drove Smith to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police searched the area, but could not find the suspects or a crime scene to process.
