Man spends 51 days in jail, released when prosecutors don't file charges

"My life has been turned upside down and ruined because of a woman making false accusations," explained Anthony Welspom. He's describing the most terrifying experience of his life. It started in August when Pine Bluff police said he was suspected of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault.

I hope that the whole city of pine bluff really look at what has happen . This Man have been slandered so bad that no matter what he does or where goes. People are still going to remember all the false accusations made against him. in situations like this. The pine bluff police department should step up and demand that this Woman be accountable for her actions. in their efforts to prosecute, they were seeking justice for the Woman. Now , What about justice for the Man who is really the victim of all this. He lost his life for 51 days and slandered. if there is a Lwa for persons making false reports. this is one time it should be enforced the the Max. Me and my church family pray for the Man that have been victimized by this Liar.....whoever she is she need mental help or prison time so that she will know not to do this again.

There is a law in Arkansas--though apparently few people know about it--that specifies if a person makes a false accusation or false swearing, that person is to be arrested and charged with a crime one less level than what the falsely accused person was arrested for "doing". If this man's charges were, for example, a Class B felony, the accuser would have to be charged with committing a Class C felony. Check it out in the Arkansas Code Annotated. What happened to Mr. Welspom happened to me, and to more than a few other Arkansans. False accusations put me in the S*x Offender Registry, as it has to many others. My life has also been "turned upside down and ruined", and Heaven help me, I've only just begun to forgive my accusers and the investigators who withheld ("lost") evidence. There is something we all can do. If the State Legislature has bills that will continue, or worsen, conditions for ex-felons and their families, fight those bills. If no one speaks out, the lawmakers assume everyone is OK with the proposed new laws. Do what you can to stop such bills.

I agree Yankee, the woman should face charges of filing a false report and if I was this dude I'd sue that ho' for defamation of character. Women like this, that file these reports just because they're mad at their man, should be made examples of.

Shouldn't the woman face charges? One would think so.

The same thing happened to me, less the rape charge. Totally fabricated. Yet the way the law reads, that is all it takes. All a woman has to do is say you hit her or molested her and you are off to jail. The investigating officers don't have the sense God gave a goat to make any accurate decisions for themselves, so they do what they are only good at besides writing tickets and serving warrants. The arrest you and you go to jail. The law needs to be stricken from the books!

I don't get it. How long can a suspect be held before an indictment or charges have to be filed? Where the he|| was the public defender's office?
