JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — A man accused in the beating death of his 83-year-old landlord is to be tried later this month.
The Jonesboro Sun reports that trial is to start Nov. 29 for 39-year-old Ronnie Laster.
Laster is accused in the December slaying of Helen Johnson at her home just outside Jonesboro's city limits.
Investigators say Laster confessed to killing Johnson during an interview with Craighead County sheriff's deputies. Police say he lived two doors down from Johnson and had tried to borrow money from her.
Laster's wife, Tammy Laster, is charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.
Ronnie Laster remained in the Craighead County Jail on Tuesday on $1 million bond. He pleaded not guilty.
