Mandatory reporting class surprises some teachers

Jackie Williams isn't just a teacher at Greenbrier High School. Legally speaking, she's also a mandatory reporter. That means if she sees or hears of a student being abused and does not act on it, she could go to jail for up to a year.

Shouldn't need to be "mandatory"; if you are human, seems like the right thing to do regardless of who you are or what you do for a living. Rodie; seems you opened up a can of worms. I live in a small area between Jax and Lonoke County line. Predominately white for many years. We had our first black family buy a home on our street a few years ago. No problems with them. Some of them don't wave back, they kind of keep to themselves, but we've had no problems with crime, so they are welcome here.

Seems to me this should be common sense.

what kind of sicko wouldn't report child abuse??? anyone who doesn't, should go to jail but I don't think it should just apply to teachers alone..I'm all for minding your own business but when someone, child or adult, is being abused, we have a civil duty to do something about it..

This is gonna turn very ugly before its all over with. This opens a lot of doors for people to report bassed on opinion. I have a 15 y/o son that plays football and looks realy bad from being bruised up after games or practice. If one didn't know him they might think he was abused. If you just call based on your opinion you can cause a lot of unnessacery trouble for good parents. I dont agree with child abuse and think it should be reported. Some people have a problem deturmoning what is abuse and what could just be rough play. My son is all boy and plays very rough. And it shows.

Rodie, they want to get away from the inner city thugs just as much as anyone else who is not a thug...Are you really that big of a moron? Maybe if you'd get to know a black person instead of just bashing them all of the time, you'd realize that...

Rodie, whats your deal? Everything you post has something to do with black people. I live in Cabot and I'll tell you why black people are moving to Cabot. I have had several black families move into my neighborhood in the past couple of years. They ALL tell me pretty much the same thing. "We are moving here to get our kids out of the PCSSD (or LR/NLR schools) so they will have a better education, and we are tired of living in crime infested areas." They are moving to better the environment for their famiy and kids. Cant say I blame them. Do you, Rodie, have a problem with blacks moving to Cabot and Austin?

Everyone needs to be included in this law. The surest bet today is if I see you abusing a child is I will dial 911 right before throwing my phone down and trying to make your head black and blue. The only thing worse than a snitch is someone that abuses children. When it comes to a child I can be the second lowest form of humanity. QUICK!!!

BTW....I listen to the LRPD police dispatch and a little bit ago a 10 yr. old child called in to say that an 11 yr. old had taken his bike away from him. GOOD JOB. Our officers respond to a multitude of calls daily involving guns....a multitude of people staggering around in the street of at businesses drunk or on drugs...I hope they made a believer out of that 11 yr. old. God Bless our LRPD
