Memorial held for skating rink owner

Monday night, friends and family of Larry Billings gathered at a Conway church to remember him.
CONWAY, AR - Right now , Larry Billings’ murder remains a mystery.

So far, there are no arrests, no sign of the weapon, and no signs of Billings’ truck.

Monday night, his friends and family members gathered at a Conway church to grieve and celebrate his life.

“Just all of the little posts that are out there. Gosh, that’s such an outpouring. Thousands of comments,” says Billings' older brother, David.

David Billings invited FOX16 to speak with him at Larry’s memorial. He wants to keep his brother’s death in the headlines so police can find the killer.

“It’s hunting season now, and there’s going to be a lot of hunters out in the woods and roaming around everywhere. If they just kind of keep an eye out there for the blue pickup truck in addition to the deer, you know, that would really be great,” says David Billings.

If you grew up in Conway, you probably knew Billings. He owned the roller skating rink. It’s a hobby he tuned into a business.

“In Indiana, when we were little boys, we’d just go out back and play and sometimes. We’d run the water hose out back on the sidewalk so it would freeze in the winter, and we’d get out there and skate on the ice,” recalls David.

Whether it was ice skating as a young boy, or teaching kids in Conway how to skate, Larry’s brother is thankful for the community’s outpouring support.

“We’ve lost a son, a bother, and a husband, a father. And, you know, Larry gave so much to the community, now I would just like the community to help us,” he says.

Someone shot and killed Billings in his Faulkner County home last week. He was 60 years old.

A reward for information learning to an arrest and conviction will be announced later this week. Investigators are still looking for Bililngs’ truck. It is a 2007 blue Nissan Titan with the license plate: 631-MEM.
