TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) — The Miller County Quorum Court has approved an ordinance that will provide $90,000 to upgrade security at the county jail.
County leaders say the security upgrades will reduce chances of another inmate escape.
The Texarkana Gazette reports the proposed upgrades include more security cameras, concrete piers for lights and additional razor wire for the fence surrounding the facility.
The upgrades come after two men arrested on murder charges escaped the jail by using a hacksaw blade to cut through the bars on their cell window. The men then crawled through the razor wire to escape the property.
They were arrested three days later without incident.
A consultant's report recommended the additional lighting and cameras, as well as more than 10,000 feet of razor wire.
