PLUMERVILLE, AR - A Utah man was arrested last week following a traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Plumerville during which officers found an estimated $1 million worth of marijuana.
Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith told the Petit Jean County Headlight that 230 lbs of pot was found after a state trooper stopped a Ford truck for following an 18-wheeler too close Tuesday.
The trooper became suspicious when the driver became very “argumentative” and his story about lengthy travel did not match the small suitcase in the vehicle. The back of the truck, which covered with a camper shell, also contained 17 moving boxes, the man said he was using to carry equipment for a job.
A K-9 Unit from Conway was dispatched and the dog “hit” on the truck. Officers found 12 packages of marijuana averaging 18 ounces each in each of the moving boxes.
The driver, 32-year-old Anthony Wotkyns of Salt Lake City, was arrested and later charged with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver.
Campbell said this is the largest bust in Conway County this year.
