MT. VERNON, AR - Several wildfires across Arkansas kept firefighters busy Sunday.

According to Chief Nathan Wagoner with the Mt. Vernon Fire Department a fire burned 70 to 80 acres and two barns. They were able to save 3 to 4 houses.

It's believed the fire was caused by someone burning trash even though a burn ban is in effect. The fire is under control at this time with mop up operations ongoing.

One fire fighter was overcome by the heat. Seven fire departments responded to the fire as well as north star EMS and the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

Also yesterday's Greenbrier fire flamed up again today but was quickly contained.

According to Faulkner County Judge Preston Scroggins, a small fire south of Vilonia flared up again today but is contained at this time.

If a person is dumb enough to light a fire during a burn ban, then fine the hell out of them. Oh wait, that may violate a constitutional right.

It ticks me off that people do no realize the cost not only financially but in human terms...that firefighter sacrificed his health today because he was doing his job on behalf of some idiot that burned trash, thinking only of themselves. Me Me Me...how about REALLY be neighborly and consider others when you burn in spite of a ban or set off fireworks or throw something out the car window...lost a friend a few yrs back because of a median grass fire distorting visibility on the hwy...THINK!!!
