Morrilton To Consider Stronger Dog Ordinance

Morrilton To Consider Stronger Dog Ordinance

Issue will be discussed Monday night at 6 p.m.
LITTLE ROCK, AR-- The Morrilton Mayor wants to put more restrictions on dogs, by requiring owners to install 6-foot fences, instead of four to prevent dog attacks.

"We found out the 4 foot fence is not adequate," said Mayor Stewart Nelson.

It's an issue Melissa Blizzard believes will be positive.

"I think it's a good idea just because dogs do tend to get loose and they tend to hurt other animals and destroy property or get hit by cars," said Blizzard.

But others, like Liz Whiting, disagree.

"Not every dog attacks. I believe it is how they are raised. My dog is not mean and I believe the owner should be responsible if [the dogs] are mean dogs," said Whiting.

The city council will vote on the issue Monday night and the Mayor says he hopes it passes.

He adds if the measure passes, there will not be a grandfather clause.

The council meets at 6 p.m.
