FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A former husband and wife have pleaded not guilty in Washington County to killing the woman's mother in 1996.

Reta Flowers and Raymond Douglas are each charged with first-degree murder in the death of Goldie Thornsberry. Thornsberry disappeared from Fayetteville on March 7, 1996.

Her remains were found in a water well in Little Rock in 2000 and were identified last month.

Police say Flowers and Douglas had been suspects throughout the case and were charged after Thornsberry's remains were identified. The two pleaded guilty in 1996 to forgery in connection with Thornsberry's bank accounts and each served less than five years in prison.

Police say Flowers and Douglas later moved to Little Rock and brought the remains with them.
