STUTTGART, AR -- Multiple agencies are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy who died on Sept. 30 in Stuttgart.

Stuttgart police officer Cody Gillioun was dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of North Spring Street for a child who was having trouble breathing, according to a police report.

Gillioun was redirected to a hospital where the child was being taken by ambulance.

Upon his arrival, the medical staff informed him Louis Alexander Johnson Jr., was dead.

According to the report, Gillioun observed the child looked malnourished and that his ribs were visible.

Gillioun also said the child's clothes were very dirty, and the diaper the boy was wearing was very soiled and had maggots in it.

The Stuttgart Police Department is working in conjunction with Crimes Against Children on this investigation.

Amy Webb from the Arkansas Department of Human Services said they received allegations of inadequate nutrition and environmental neglect and launched an investigation on Sept. 18. They were continuing the investigation at the time of the child's death.

Law enforcement is continuing its investigation, and no arrests have been made.
