CLEBURNE COUNTY, AR - A senior at Vilonia High School is killed at a weekend party in Cleburne County. Now, detectives say a friend of Amanda Allison, 17, is charged with murder for shooting her.

Cody Gorecke, 19, of Wilburn faces charges of 2nd degree murder, aggravated assault for allegedly shooting Allison on Saturday night at his home at 300 School Lane.

Rosie Hill lives up the road and says she knew something was wrong.

"I could hear a gunshot, sounded like a high powered gun," Hill says.

Investigators say several people were at the home in Wilburn, about 10 miles east of Heber Springs and that alcohol was involved.  At some point say Gorecke picked up a shotgun.

Allison, who would have turned 18 on Wednesday, died of a single gunshot wound in the midsection.

19-year-old Cody Gorecke was arrested and has been charged with 2nd degree murder and aggravated assault, along with three misdemeanors related to the possession of drugs and alcohol. Gorecke is scheduled to appear before the judge within the next 72 hours, and will be arraigned on the murder charge on Jan. 25.

"It's real scary, it's usually quiet around here," Ivery Hill says.

Cleburne County sheriff Marty Moss says there are a lot of witnesses still to talk to, to find out what exactly happened leading up to when the Vilonia High senior was shot.

"It's very sad, especially when you have children," Moss says. "I have an 18-year-old daughter and I can just imagine someone knocking on my door and breaking that news to me. She had her life ahead of her."

Vilonia High School principal Andy Ashley told FOX16 News the district is devastated by the loss of one of its students.  Allison's father is also a teacher at Vilonia High.

"Everyone knew Amanda. She was a fun loving kid," Ashley says.  "This is a horrible tragedy and a senseles loss for Vilonia High School."

Ashley says he will make an announcement when school begins Tuesday and hold a moment of silence.  Students were not in school Monday.  Ashley says counselors from all the schools in the district will be made available if students need to speak with someone.

Gorecke will appear before a judge later this week.  He will be arraigned on the murder and aggravated assault judge on January 25 in Cleburne County circuit court.

He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol.
