MARIANNA, Ark. (AP) — A trial date has been set for an inmate accused of stabbing a guard to death in an east Arkansas prison.

A Lee County clerk said Wednesday that Latavious Johnson's trial is scheduled for Oct. 29 in Marianna.

Prison officials say Johnson stabbed the guard, Barbara Ester, while she was investigating whether he had a pair of unauthorized shoes in the prison.

He was previously sentenced to life in prison for killing his father.

Prison records show that 30-year-old Johnson is being held at the state's maximum-security unit at Varner.

One of his attorneys, Joe Perry, didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

im not really racist i just love screwing with people i think are. wow you can shoot! you did all that training "just to shoot someone like him" huh. well i better stay out of your range..lol. seriously dude needs to be burned or injected. and murderers should be confined in there own units away from drug dealers and DWIs. the lady that lost her life probably did not know what he was in for and didnt know the amount of danger she was in when approaching him. he couldve easily been in there for theft of property and wouldnt physiclaly harm a fly. the prison system needs to change how they house the inmates. my apolgy to you dilligaf im just an old A hole that likes to poke fun

Wonder when you couldn't wear any shoes you wanted and could buy in prison. When I was there From Sept. 98 till may 2000 if you had money on your books you could order anything you wanted off the inmate store. Up to 55 dollars a week. I wore Reebok's. On the tax payers dollar. Had a free world script before sentenced. They have to keep your medical in line. Some of those laws that need to be changed voters. They cut a little chunk out of the heel. To track you if you escape. No one needs to die for a pair of shoes. He is guilty of the first one how is he alive for the second. Murder should be paid for with your life. Some more of that law changing the voters should call for. As for what a lifer has to lose in the joint. Phone calls, mail, visitation, and going to the inmate store. Can you see the justice in that.

blackandproud, the last time I did my qualifying at the firing range, which was 87 days ago, I came out with a 97% marksmanship score in handgun drills and a 94% in rifle short range and 93% long range. So it is likely that this crackhead is not a better shot. I shoot a lot of ammo to stay sharp in my skills just for people like him. So take that, along with your racist comment regarding the "hood under the mattress" and shove it up your racist ass.

this is why there should be no life w/o parole sentences..Murderer's should get the death sentence and have it quickly carried out. Lifers have no incentive to do good. When you have nothing to lose, you do whatever the hell you want to do and get away with it.

This is his second killing, time for him to fry. Apparently a life sentence isnt good enough for him. But yet, somehow, he will remain alive while two people are dead because of him. Let him out, send him towards my house, I'll carry out the proper sentence without thinking twice about it.
