NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – Voters in North Little Rock approved a tax increase to remodel the district’s schools.

The vote was 57.43% to 42.57% (a difference of about 1,000 votes) in favor of increasing the millage rate by 7.4 mills. A mill is 1/10 of a cent, or $1 for every $1000 worth of property.

The North Little Rock School District says the plan for the tax increase includes new construction, renovations and consolidation of facilities to provide equal opportunities and resources for learning. The district will restructure from 21 to 13 campuses to operate more efficiently.

“The District and North Little Rock Board of Education will be good stewards of your tax dollars. We will deliver on the promise of improved learning environments to ensure future generations in North Little Rock have World Class Schools for World Class Students,” says Dorothy Williams, President of the North Little Rock Board of Education.

The long-range facilities plan will be presented to the State Facilities Division by March 1. NLRSD says the next step is to design the facilities with input from staff and the community. Site work for phase one will begin later this year with building construction beginning in spring 2013.
