If the school board could stop a TIF then why do we have two already? Mayor Hays can't be played. He went ahead and set up a downtown TIF over even more vocal opposition than was expressed agianst the Bass Pro Shop. The school district along with Frank Fletcher had to sue the City to try and stop the downtown TIF and the lawsuit is still pending. The money form that TIF is still being taken from the District and held in an escrow account, nearly $100,000 at this point. Ths District does live within it's means with 50% of this the cost of the construction coming from District savings and 25% from the State. But if you are ok with the schools continuing to decay and our neighborhoods go downhill, so be it. But down blame the Bass Pro Shop debacle on the School Board. By the way, the school property tax revenue on a 40 million dollar Bass Pro shop and strip center would only be about $127,200 a year once the TIF expired. Just enough to bond and build one new elementary school. Not the nine elementaries we need or even remodel West Campus

To SCHOOLNUT I don't know what papers or news you watch and that includs NLR Times but the school board came out against the plan for Bass Pro time and time again and yes they did play Hayes,no more taxes for the schools live within their means. We sportsmans remember bass pro and we will vote because of this/where we would have not voted.

The Bass Pro shop was not killed because the school board came out against it. Mayor Hays never submitted a TIF plan for Bass Pro and then the developer backed out. Mayor Hays did submit TIF plans for downtown and Baring Cross and these were approved by City Council and the money taken from the District. The school board cannot deny or even slow down a TIF if the City wants to create one. Your frustration is misplaced.

Remember how the school board came out against TIF taxes and now we have no Bass Pro shop at the Lakewood exit,if I remember right they have received the taxes after 10 years, well 5 have pass and they will never receive any of that tax $$$ from it,and now they want you to vote for this,I think a lot of people will still have a bad feelings over this.
