Neighbors express concerns over Tech Park

Development of the Little Rock Technology Park has many homeowners worried and angry they'll be forced out of their homes.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Development of the Little Rock Technology Park has many homeowners worried and angry they'll be forced out of their homes.

Forest Hills is one of three neighborhoods being considered for the Little Rock Technology Park. Nearly 100 homeowners aren't just sad, but mad the Little Rock Technology Park Authority is looking at the possibility of taking over their property for development.

Rohn Muse lives in Forest Hills and does not want to move. "Eminent domain in residential areas is actually abuse. It's abuse of power when there are other options for the location of the park. It doesn't have to be in a residential neighborhood."

Rohn Muse and his neighbors are making their opinions known out in the community, too, by posting signs for everyone to see saying "Not for Sale." "We will not get fair pricing for our homes if they exercise eminent domain."

Park Authority board members say they understand the worry and concern. Chair of the Board Mary Good says if eminent domain is used, it will be done fairly. "Everybody has to be in the same boat. You cannot have people who do well, and others who don't."

A final decision on which site will be chosen for the Little Rock Technology Park could be weeks or months away.
The Park Authority wants to assure homeowners their concerns will be taken into consideration. Good says the goal is to end up with the best solution for the neighborhood and the city.

The Park Authority will meet with the other two neighborhood associations. The next Park Authority meeting is Wednesday, April 11th.

A consulting firm chosen to evaluate all three sites may be ready to present its report at the next meeting, but the firm will not select the best site, only help guide the board in making its final decision.
