JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — A new Arkansas law requires health insurance companies to provide coverage for treatments for autism.

The law went into effect on Saturday and mandates coverage for children with the disorder that impedes normal development of social and communication skills.

The Jonesboro Sun reports that providers who treat the disorder are optimistic that families with an autistic child can now get help that would otherwise be beyond their means.

Dayna Miller-Black and business partner Julie Adams founded a nonprofit clinic in Jonesboro to treat autism symptoms at little or no cost to parents. Miller-Black says many families had to be turned away because of high demand. She says that should change now that insurance coverage is required.

If you don't want to be in the pool with my children, then I certainly don't want to be in the pool for all the cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc...that all of you will have thanks to your lifestyle choices. These children are born with their disabilities and had no choice but to need assistance....the rest of us usually cause our own illnesses in some way. I guess it's fine for us to pay for your heart cath, surgeries, insulin, etc...so you can live the rest of your life feeling ok, but my children should not even be allowed to communicate effectively with their own parents. Get a brain....and a heart if your insurance will pay for it. Geez.

I don't want to be in the pool with people's children. I don't have children, intentionally, and I shouldn't be required to contribute to their coverage. This is no different from Obama Care. Everyone is forced to be in the same pool.

Thats a good thing that people with this disorder are going to get coverage. But while their makeing these laws they should put a cap on how mutch insurance companeys can charge people. Becaus what will happen now is insurance companeys will counter act with raising everyones rates. Its already high enough and in most cases less painfull to just pay the Doctor bill. At some point you have to decide wich is more doable...... Paying the bill or paying for insurance. Especily if you dont have help from your employer.
