SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — An attorney for a black man charged in the shooting death of a white Searcy man is seeking a new location for a trial after fliers promoting the Ku Klux Klan were circulated in nearby Pangburn.
An attorney for Maurice Alexander also cited media coverage in the death of Zachary Mitchell as reason to move the proceedings. Mitchell was fatally shot in October when he was working as a janitor.
Alexander's attorney, Darrell Brown Jr., argued the presence of KKK fliers in the county shows that jurors may be prejudiced against a black man charged with killing a white man.
Prosecutors told The Daily Citizen that they'd just received the request and hadn't had time to review it. A judge set a March 28 hearing to consider the motion.
