LITTLE ROCK, AR – Friday, Saturday and Sunday proved deadly days on Arkansas roads and highways as nine people lost their lives and several others were injured. Two of the fatal crashes were in Pulaski County while the remainder are reported in other areas of the state.
The latest victim is 22 year old Bryan Anthony Tittle of Magnolia. According to state police reports Tittle was southbound on Highway 7 in El Dorado, around 1:40am, Sunday morning, when his car left the road and struck a tree.
An ATV crash claimed the life of a Crossett man just before 9:30pm Saturday. Ashley County Deputy Mark Griever says 36 year old Michael Elton died when the eastbound Yamaha Rhino he was driving on County Road 135 near Hamburg, left the road and overturned.
66 year old Finis Lee Martin of Heber Springs died in a crash in Conway County. Arkansas State police say Martin was killed around 11:30am Saturday, when his eastbound pickup had a blowout on Interstate 40. Investigators say when the rear passenger side tire blew Martin lost control and his vehicle flipped several times before finally coming to rest in the median.
Just before 11:30am Saturday, in Searcy County, another accident claimed the life of a motorcycle rider. State police reports say 41 year old of Olathe, Kansas, was eastbound on highway 16 about 5 miles west of Witt Springs, when he lost control, left the road and hit a tree.
The rash of fatal crashes began just after 2:30am Friday Morning. 42 year old Daniel Redmon of Little Rock was ejected from the car in which he was a passenger at the intersection of Interstate 40 and Interstate 30 in North Little Rock. State police investigators say the 1987 Chevy Caprice in which Redmon was riding was eastbound on Interstate 40 exiting onto Interstate 30 west. The car went off the left side of the road and flipped. The driver, 37 year old James Dotson Jr. of Little Rock was also injured.
20 year old Jennifer Nicole Gray of Little Rock died in a crash on Interstate 430 just after noon Friday. Arkansas State Police say the victim was southbound near Rodney Parham when she swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle but instead slammed into a portable information sign, left the road and flipped upside down.
42 year old Derald Dewayne Caery of Dardanelle died just after 5:30pm Friday in an accident on on Highway 7, just south of Centerville in Yell County.State police say Caery was southbound when his Chevrolet Lumina left the right side of the road and overturned ejecting him from the car. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
37 year old Roy Douglas of Forrest City was killed in a Woodruff County accident also just after 5:30pm Friday. Arkansas State Police say Douglas died when the westbound Kawasaki motorcycle he was driving hit the rear of a truck on Highway 64 near Augusta. A female passenger on the motorcycle and the driver of the truck were also hurt but the extent of their injuries is not yet available.
The fifth fatal crash happened just after 10:30pm Friday night in Prairie County. State police say 46 year old Nathaniel Polite of Hazen was killed when the motorcycle he was riding left the road and landed in a ditch. Investigators say Polite apparently lost control in a curve while northbound on U-S 249 near Hazen.
