LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The union representing teachers in the Pulaski County School District has voted "no confidence" in Superintendent Jerry Guess and state Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell.

The district was taken over by the state due to financial irregularities and then it entered fiscal distress in February.

Guess has overridden labor contracts for teachers and support staff. A Friday statement by the teachers union criticized Guess for not taking a pay cut in the proposed budget for next school year while some teachers would suffer pay cuts in the thousands of dollars.

The unions have sued the district to in hope of getting a judge to reinstate their contracts.

The 17,000-student district has a projected deficit of $13.6 million for the 2012-2013 school year.

I have zero confidence in the PCSSD, the leaders of it or the unions. ALL of them are a bunch of money hungry, greed driven idiots that only care about one thing........... "Whats in it for me". The only ones suffering are the kids that attend schools in this loser of a district and the taxpayers. The state needed to take over this rediculous district.

I too the TAX PAYER HAVE NO CONFIDENCE in a leader who is willing to attempt to BREAK/ BACK OUT of a contract he awarded just months before. In some places the labor board has a say so but it seems like here in Arkansas that its inept, thus maybe one of the reasons Arkansas residents are among the lowest paid in the nation.

The "no confidence" vote was unanimous. I know this because I was present, and voted. Our union is PACT: The Pulaski Association of Classroom Teachers. It is hard to have confidence in a Superintendent, Dr. Jerry Guess, who has a higher salary than a US Senator, but cries "fiscal distress" to justify everything, and a State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Tom Kimbrell, who has ordered the non-recognition of our unions, and breaking of our legally-binding contracts. The vote was of "no confidence" in both of these men, specifically.
