North Little Rock, AR- On Wednesday December 21, the North Little Rock Police Department celebrated the 13th Annual "Season of Giving", which benefits single parent families. North Little Rock Police Officers, along with radio personalities Tre Day and Broadway Joe from Power 92, met at the North Little Rock Police Department to deliver gifts and food boxes to selected families that are in need of assistance this Christmas season.

Many of the families selected were nominated on the Power 92.3 radio website and the families selected were required to meet the criteria of being working, single parent households residing in North Little Rock.

This is the thirteenth year the North Little Rock Police Department has held this heartwarming event and it continues to be successful due to donations from the community. In 1998, the first year of this event, the North Little Rock Police Department was able to assist 3 families. This year, the North Little Rock Police Department assisted 15 families. This program continues to grow and is a constant reminder to our citizens that NLR Police Officers care about those in our community. This event is supported and made possible by toy donations from the North Little Rock Catholic Academy and Immaculate Conception School. The food boxes were donated by Sylvan Hills Church of Christ. All of the gift wrapping was done by the Coulson Oil Company.

These officers work very hard to serve and protect the people in their community. They spend MANY off duty hours pulling together programs like this one and so many more. I'm not denying that abuse by officers does occur but your comment on such a wonderful story was way out of line. If you would have seen the precious little faces on those children today and the tears in those parents eyes when SOME of North Little Rock's finest showed up maybe you would understand. May God bless you, protect you and help you understand that these officers are not trying to redeem themselves. They are simply trying to bring joy to someones life by giving back to the community they love. It was an honor to be part of something so beautiful.

Playing Santa will not redeem the police. They must stop abusing people.
