North Little Rock leaders approve McCain Railroad Overpass

Thursday night, a major road project is approved in North Little Rock, using almost $10 million of federal and local dollars.
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Thursday night, a major road project is approved in North Little Rock, using almost $10 million of federal and local dollars.

Engineers say everyday 44 trains cross at McCain Boulevard, causing a lot of traffic problems. So the city council chose to build an overpass at the crossing.

From her porch, Mamie Wilkins--Cooper sees drivers get frustrated everyday.

"Even though I have a sign out there that says don't block this area, they block this area," said Wilkins-Cooper.

Her neighbor, Rick Shelby, sees it too.

"It's a headache for traffic, people have places and things to do," said Shelby.

The project will take two to three years to complete for the 13,000 people who cross at the intersection daily.

"It would significantly improve traffic conditions in that area, as well as connectivity from east to west," said Marlar Engineering Consultant Mike Marlar.
