Not all police officers have tazers. Little Rock police officers don't carry tazers yet but will be getting them in the future.

Rule number 1 is never argue with a lawyer but from a practical standpoint I would think that in the heat of the moment, having to make a split second decision and wanting very much to stay alive the police officer may have thought he was being threatened with lethal force and decided to end the confrontation in his favor. He was trying to do his job enforcing the law and protecting the citizens and obviously didn't shoot to kill. I think sometimes when we sit around after the fact in our safe living room playing a scene over in our mind in slow motion it's easy to be critical but speed it up to real time and pretend it is your life being threatened, common sense would dictate the use of superior force. I don't know about you but if I were a policeman I wouldn't want to make it a fair fight. I'd want to make it like the Iraqi war and anhilate the threat with prejudice. Who was that ancient philosopher who said "The most supreme law is the good of the people." In this case I think the good of the people was served and if I had to stop and think what politically correct weapon I should use when my life was being threatened I sure wouldn't sign up to be a policeman.

Again, what ever happened to 'stop or I'll shoot!' punks need to be warned that cops will shoot! totally justified!!

i thought all police officers had tazers now since that incident that happened in chicago they made it mandatory and even with that if he thought he did use correct force i wonder why he is under investigation

sanity check: suspicious vehicle flees the scene, wrecks, driver flees when told to stop, then turns with what may be a knife. (all from the story) What we don't have: time of day, location, other circumstances, like does this small police force HAVE tazers?. The cop shot the kid IN THE LEG in apparent self-defense. Sounds like he used as little force as he felt necessary to stop the kid (versus a double-tap to the chest). Why did the kid flee? Why did he try to run after the wreck? Was he known to be a trouble-maker? None of us have all the info.

WOW ! You guys are really going at it on this one. I don't know if the officer had the right to shoot this kid but I don't think it was necessary. Although if I put myself in his shoes , I may have doe the same thing. Just don't know.
