Officer on paid leave after shooting teen

The Lincoln Police Department says an officer is on paid leave after he shot a teenager who allegedly had a knife.

LINCOLN, Ark. (AP) — The Lincoln Police Department says an officer is on paid leave after he shot a teenager who allegedly had a knife.

The Northwest Arkansas Times reports that Officer Chris Williams was investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle late Monday night. The police department says the vehicle's driver allegedly led Williams on a chase, then wrecked his car.

Police say the teen reportedly ran when Williams told him to "get on the ground." The department says Williams shot the teen in the leg as the teen turned toward the officer, holding a knife.

Police say the teen was hospitalized but his injuries aren't life-threatening. He hasn't been identified because he's a juvenile.

Williams was placed on paid administrative leave while the Washington County Sheriff's Office investigates the shooting.
