BENTON, AR – Officers from the Benton Police Department responded to a call about a residential shooting Wednesday night.

According to reports, around 10:48pm on April 25, police responded to a home located at 3096 Galloway drive, the home of Joshua and Laura Akers, after receiving calls about a shooting. When they arrived, 29-year-old Michael Moon, a friend of the Akers, told police that he received a call from Laura Akers, telling him she was unable to contact her husband Joshua. Laura reportedly asked Michael to go to the home to see if anything was wrong. Michael told police that he rang the doorbell several times, banged on the windows and made noise in an attempt to get a response from Joshua.

According to reports, Laura then asked Michael to “kick in the door because she feared something was wrong,” at which point Joshua was woken up by the noise. Joshua told police that he was afraid, and grabbed his pistol, firing several rounds through the door and striking Michael.

Michael was taken to a Little Rock hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.

Well I'm glad he wasn't killed. Can't really blame the sleeping guy for shooting someone trying to break down his door though. These days you can never be too careful.
