LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Opponents of a $2.1 billion power plant under construction in southwest Arkansas will be rallying against the project.

The Sierra Club planned to protest the John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant during a rally at noon Tuesday at the Pulaski County Courthouse Rose Garden.

Southwestern Electric Power Company announced in July that it had reached a settlement with the Hempstead County Hunting Club Inc. and several other area landowners, who agreed to drop their legal and regulatory challenges to the plan in exchange for changes to the facility's plans.

The plant still faces challenges from the Sierra Club and the National Audubon Society. Those groups are suing to halt work on the facility.

Who abdicated and left the Sierra Club in charge? Animals and trees are abundant all over this great country. I don't think they should be put over human survival. What the heck!

Jobs are jobs. Why is everyone so blind to the fact that we, as Americans need to create jobs, whenever and where ever possible. I am a firm believer in taking care of our planet. I do not believe in the fracking thats being done in Arkansas for natural gas. I think it could have severe impact environmentally. Other that that, lets get some work going. Bring back some of our manufacturing jobs, and start buying American. Remember the old Sam Walton " Buy American ". Now Walmart is the largest single importer of Chinese good on the planet. I don't need to be slapped in the head with a 2 X 4 to figure out where that has gotten us. Maybe we need to fire up a saw mill first and make a lot more 2 X 4's. Bring back the textile industry. Good Lord, lets do something productive.

Charlie, I think you mean "thousand" (1400 to be precise) jobs, and those are temporary construction jobs. This plant will have only 110 permanent positions if/when it is in production. Donnie, the people of Arkansas are not actually going to be getting power from this plant. Just pointing that out. But hey, I do like your extreme thinking. I think that's a healthy attitude.

These people should have their power disconnected, never to have access to electricity again. Guess they think it just grows on trees like the governments money. HA
