OSCEOLA, Ark. (AP) — A jury convicted an Osceola man of first-degree murder for the slaying of a woman in Mississippi County.

Jurors on Thursday recommended a sentence of 65 years in prison for 27-year-old Kurion Hughes.

The Jonesboro Sun reports that Hughes was accused of fatally shooting 46-year-old Debbie Ann Hooks of Osceola in the face.

Jurors sentenced Hughes to 50 years for the murder and added a consecutive 15 years because a firearm was used in the offense.

Hughes was arrested in January after witnesses said they saw Hughes shoot Hooks while they were in a car together.
